Full moon happens at 4:58 AM on Aug, 26 PST,so many of you may wish to do this on Sat. night-I know I will be! I use Yasmin Boland's Moonology book in working with the Moon phases, and it's worked wonderfully well for me. Full moon is a time of letting go,of forgiveness,of clearing the decks inwardly (and sometimes outwardly!) so that we may continue our journey without being so weighted down. With the Sun going into Virgo, this is traditionally a time of getting more into organizing, neatening up,and clearing away in preparation for what we want to harvest at Autumn Equinox. So,if there's people or other situations you need to forgive and release (in other words, quit running the mini movie thru your head over & over) this is a great time to do that,in addition to trimming things in the yard if you have one, getting rid of weeds, etc and clearing clutter in the home. And - don't forget to forgive yourself and weed the garden of your heart of things that don't belong there. Releasing and forgiving yourself and others are key. I'd like to show you a couple of different tools I use in cleansing my energy fields before getting into any type of drumming work- these are just regular percussion tools of the trade and can be found in most music stores or online. Meet the Cabasa/Afuche The Cabasa is used like a rattle or a shaker- and has a wider range of tone. It was invented by Martin Cohen over 30 years ago and consists of loops of steel bead chain that's wrapped on a textured metal surface. You hold it by the handle with your dominant hand, cup the beaded chain in your non dominant hand, gently rubbing the beaded chain against the metal surface. The bead-chains will roll around the surface, producing a sound similar to a rattle. You can also shake it as you would a rattle,or do a combo of rubbing the bead chain and lightly tapping the body of the cabasa into your hand, using a rhythm pleasing to you. I use this in cleaning the "gunkies" out of my energy field, "breaking up" stagnant or stuck energy, and moving the chi or prana around a room. These come in a variety of sizes- get one you feel would be best for you. The Chime This is my most basic chime- it's small- about 5-6" in length, and comes with a striker,as seen here. It puts out a penetrating bell tone, and a soft tap is best as these can really project. There are ones made with 2 or 3 metal bars, each one having a different tone, but for starters, this does great. I use it to cleanse my energy field, a room,an object,in addition to using it as a que that my meditation is going to begin. The tone has a "carry me away" quality that really helps get me out of my head and into my heart.
It's perfectly okay,by the way,to purchase used instruments. They can be blessed/cleansed by smudging, and using stick incense is perfectly fine. Just be careful no embers fall off that can burn anything! I move the incense smoke gently using exhales or by using a bird feather to sweep the smoke with. My cabasa, bongo drums, and one of my darbukas are previously owned.
