Blessed New Moon!
Now that the moon is in Libra,I figured it was time to write about blessing and charging whatever percussion instruments you play. Whether it's a cajon,a wood block,a conga, djembe, whatever drum(s) you have the new moon is the time to do it.
Let me ask you this before we start: what is the intention or service you wish to manifest with your drum? Healing? Space clearing? Doing shamanic journeys? To enhance meditation?
Whatever it may be,(and yes, your drum can be a multi tasker!) we must cleanse and bless the drum we use.
First, let me hasten to add I don't use water on drums as it's not good for them. I do use a smudge stick with the traditional sage & cedar, allowing the smoke to cleanse and bless. (if you have a cajon,be sure to gently wave some of the smoke into the hole in the back of it) Be sure to be careful that embers don't fly off and hit your drum. If I don't have a smudge stick,I use an incense stick, such as frankincense, vanilla nag champa, whatever feels right to me in the moment. This can also vary depending on the time of year. For example, once October rolls in I use copal.
Feathers are also useful. My personal favorite is a South Eagle (turkey) feather. I sweep around the drum just as I would in cleansing a person's aura, being sure I also sweep the feather under the cajon, bongos, etc.
A suggestion I'd like to make is you can also fill a drawstring pouch with sage, cedar, and lavender and place it inside your cajon when you're not using it. If you have a gigbag for your bongos, you may want to store the pouch in it. If you bless a crystal with the purpose of blessing/cleansing the drum,be sure to keep it in the accessory pocket of your case/gigbag. You don't want your instrument to get scratched or dented.
Once cleansed, use the energy of your hands to charge the drum with positive energy. State out loud or silently the intended uses of the drum you're blessing. Ask your guides,Ascended Masters,Angels,Dragons, whatever you work with to aid you in doing this. Be sure to thank them when you're done. Now play to your heart's content.
