It's been a little over a year since my Dad passed, and I've been experiencing a tremendous initiation and return to the Cosmic Mother. During this time I've opened up to reading wonderful books about crystal grids, healing thru sound, the Akashic Records,in addition to books by Mama Gena & Lisa Lister. I'm also becoming a "wise woman" as my body is shifting gears.
I got "marching orders" as Julia Cameron puts it,over a year ago,to start teaching hand drumming and to learn about drum circles. As my Dad's health was declining,I couldn't commit to the call as I was looking after him and as you can imagine,I was pretty distraught. There were no siblings for emotional support as I'm the only child. His passing was unexpected to both of us. I was in utter limbo for the weeks that followed. Thankfully, neighbors and a couple of my Dad's friends have been most helpful in a variety of ways since his crossing over.
So now that things are starting to slide into place, and I feel more whole and grounded than I have in a very long time,I'm revamping this blog with a new name. Shakti Drumming.
My main focus is to help you do spirit drumming on bongo drums and cajon. The reason for this is bongos are the easiest drum kit to take anywhere with you. They're small, pretty lightweight and aren't cumbersome. And for whatever reason,it seems like bongos are among the most ignored drums to use in circles or meditation work.
Like the bongos, the cajon is a highly portable, lightweight percussion instrument that also provides somewhere to sit. It has a wide tonal range and is a drum kit in itself.
And at the root of all this is a way to get back in touch with Momma Gaia and have a way to ground, center, and empower ourselves. I'll be sharing with you what to look for when shopping for a decent bongo set,how to care for them, different techniques in playing them, and how to change heads on one.
