Well,I did something I tell others not to allow to happen. I got seperated from my beloved bongo drums due to having work done on the house last Nov. that was way overdue. In clearing out the rooms to be worked on,things were moved into a spare room, and my bongos were at the back of that room. I thought that I would empty the room back out right after the job was done. However,an extreme case of sinitus (that I went to the ER for during Veterans Day weekend) wiped me out and then Yuletide came, and I kept putting off getting my drums out. I missed them, but got occupied with other things-paradoxical for one who's favorite carol is the "Little Drummer Boy"! In retrospect it was as tho my general health went down when I stopped drumming.
I had a Drs visit earlier this month for something that was bothering me,and my BP had an elevated reading. Not the 1st time over the last year. I had told myself each time that it was from either being sick or in pain, etc. Granted the nurse didn't take my bp correctly-she put the cuff over my long sleeved shirt I was wearing. I told her that's not the way to do it but she ignored me and did it anyway. ( I know this from my Dad,who had hypertension and had to monitor his bp and take a prescribed med for it) And it was showing an elevated reading. Which led me to get my own monitor and see what was going on for myself. For the record, before I go on any further,I'm going to state I am not a Dr,and what you're about to read is not intended to give medical advice, but rather simply share my personal story of healing with you,the reader. Should you suspect or wonder if you might have hypertension, see a medical professional for an accurate reading and a consult. And my readings were elevated- not sky high but inbetween the "high normal" and "moderately high" hypertension range. So I looked up natural remedies for this and remembered that Spirit drumming helps with this. So I burrowed into the room where my bongos were and got them, along with the drum stand my drum throne. I took note of the natural remedies, and recalled that when I was in the hospital with a broken knee a couple of years ago,my blood tests showed I was low in potassium. Potassium has a lot to do with healthy bp. So I got back to taking a supplement of it,and I also went back to taking organic coconut oil supplements and started drinking coconut water. I've been taking odorless garlic and B-6. Along with this,I requested good thoughts and prayers from Silent Unity, and began using affirmations for my health and heeding the advice of H. Emilie Cady as given in her books. I also reduced my caffeine intake and have been eating more fruits and veggies. I've gotten back into my meditation and chanting practices as well. In drumming with bongos,I use a stand, and while I used to sit and play,I now use the stand and play standing up so I'm not sitting all the time. So far, between using all of the above measures, along with drumming on my bongos and Doumbek, the top number of my BP readings has dropped 15 points! I am now working on losing some excess weight, making sure I move around more, drum, and continue to use affirmations as Dr. Cady instructs in her writings.
