I was blessed enough to win this darbuka for the opening bid of under $20! And for whatever reason, the seller shipped it 1 day priority. It arrived yesterday,on Labor Day. It's heavier than the Tycoon and Yanki darbukas that I own. So if you're looking for a feather weight drum, this model isn't it- that being said,it's not super heavy either- it weighs 3 lbs 15.5 oz. I love the smoothness of the finish of the body of this particular drum, and my left arm is very comfy laying on it. The other feature that I like is the smoothness of the rim and the fact I don't need to be mindful of the placement due to protruding tuning lugs that are on my other doumbeks. The textured surface also makes my arm have a lesser tendency to slip off and helps to hold the drum steady. The tone is great- the only weakness I noticed is in rim tones. It does have a decent rim tone, however,I'm noticing you need to have just the right touch for that whereas my Tycoon and Yanki are less picky and a good ringing rim tone is easier to get on those with free form playing. (that being said, let me clarify I'm not trained in tthe "proper" way of playing this type of drum. I know the basics of hand drumming, and use that in playing any drum I have here. The Alexandria has amazing volume and a fantastic bass tone to it,as well as an excellent feel. I don't know how old the head is,but the tuner lugs have been tightened to their maximum. I may purchase a replacement Remo head soon to see how different it'll sound with a fresh head. On a scale of 1-10,I'd give this one an 8. I don't regret winning it,and love playing it!
